Dear Pastor & Sherry Mau, I just received the green file folder you had
apparently kept for Manny. In looking through it, I traveled through time remembering how
you have been so supportive of us. Here were just a few things in the green file
folder: -Birth Annoucement: You kept this picture
greeting card of his birth from 5 years ago. I remember how you performed an impromptu baptism at the Beaver Dam Hospital when we were so unsure things. Pastor Mau would then travel to UW Children's Hospital to visit Manny before and after his life threatening surgery. -Hearing Aid Bill: There were print outs of
several emails I had sent, with Action Alerts - requesting friends to write
letters to legislators in favor of the WI children's hearing aid & cochlear implant bill. Sherry had
written many emails on Manny's behalf to several legislators. Some emails very
direct. It made me and several advocates very proud...and they would say "WAY TO GO, PASTOR'S WIFE!!!" :) -Benefit Announcements: There were print outs
of Manny's medical history and upcoming benefit announcements, which you so
kindly posted and promoted at your employement, Nancy's Notions. You had carefully highlighted
important dates and facts about his medical history, showing that you cared
about every single detail of information that was provided.
Thank you for sending Manny a card to Uncle Derek's house prior to each surgery,
with stickers, McDonalds gift cards. During the last surgery, Manny walked in the front door and
immediately asked Uncle Derek "who loves me today?" AKA- where is Sherry Mau's
card? Thank you for the notes of inspiration, a book "A Child of My Own", which guides parents through children's medical issues and loss. Thank you for your donations for our family's fundraiser, the Greater Bucky Open, benefitting the UW
American Family Children's Hospital, specifically, to the GBO Family Lounge in
the Oncology/Hematology ward. Pastor & Sherry had a child, Emily, who
tragically lost her courageous battle to cancer. We will miss you! Best wishes on your retirement and move. ~Love, The Wilkes |
