Swimming at last, Halloween, InSpire

On Thursday night we took Manny (and the boys) to the Dells for the first time with good friends of ours. Manny was so excited and SO happy to be swimming. It has basically been a year since he has swam last (except for a few times here and there last winter) due to surgery and he loves to swim. He was flying down the slides with a huge grin. Dr Roberson (Palo Alto, inner ear surgeon) said to apply alcohol drops in his ear after swimming to dry up the canal - that is what he does with his swimmers at Stanford. It was a little painful for Manny but he realized it was the only way he could swim and sucked it up. Dr Roberson did not want him using the swim headband because the pressure could hurt his big boy ears. Unlike typical ears, Manny's ears do not bend, so the headband couldn't make a tight seal anyways. Unfortunately, his right ear canal became smaller and I now think he has an ear infection so we get to do some home concoctions per doctors orders and if it doesn't work 'a visit to the local ENT is in order'. Oh well, it was totally worth it.
We carved pumpkins and Manny insisted on taking the part Nate removed as the eyeholes and putting them as Big Boy Ears. He had a great time trick-or-treating as a very-home-made Robot.
We were asked by InSpire magazine to be on the cover of the November issue (an issue dedicated to being Thankful) and tell our story. They did a great job and were very nice to work with, along with Gary Haas taking our pic!
